About TerraSur

Origins

Terra is land. Sur is south.

TerraSur is steeped in the rich tradition of furniture making of Santa Fe, Argentina, where love of craft, pride of skill and hard work are second nature. Jessica D. Holmstrom founded TerraSur in 2008 to tap into this tradition and to keep it current with bold and inspired designs.

We want to take you back to a time when furniture was made by master craftsmen rather than cookie-cutter machines and when a piece of furniture was meant to be functional but also timeless, like a work of art.

Our Mission

Once the elements of craftsmanship and design are brought together, the next step is to offer a line that performs optimally in retail stores and showrooms to the trade. To achieve this mission, Holmstrom has built a company from the ground up with the capabilities necessary to provide our customers with excellent service, ever-improving quality, hassle-free operations, punctual lead times as well as targeted product development. “Every day is an opportunity to do a better job,” says Einar Elsner, Executive VP. “Our job is to make sure our clients profit with our line. We value the floor space they give us and we will never take it for granted.”

Our Partners in Argentina

Our partners have over 20 years of furniture making experience. Their know-how is rooted in the memory of their European ancestors, who migrated to Santa Fe in the mid-1800s and brought with them Old World wood crafting skills. Nestled in the lush Pampas of northern Argentina, surrounded by flatlands as far as the eye can see, our partners’ manufacturing plant is run like a design studio or a high-efficiency furniture factory, depending on the job at hand. With the design, engineering and production capabilities of a large factory, we can meet the high volume needs of the hospitality industry, but the core of our business are the high end retail and interior design markets, where craftsmanship and personal attention are paramount.

Craftsman in our Argentinian Factory Design + Innovation + Hand-Finishing

We love furniture, because we love design. All design begins with an idea and a sketch and gradually develops into a full-fledged creation. After assembly, the clatter of the factory gives way to the quietude of our master finishers’ studio, where each piece of furniture is dressed up. Richly textured, multi-layered, hand-antiqued and painted finishes are just a few of the signature features to our hand-crafted furniture collections and designs. At TerraSur, no two pieces are identical, because hand-antiquing, hand-distressing and hand-rubbed finishing make each piece of furniture—close in nature to art. With TerraSur on your retail or showroom floor, you are guaranteed new and top-performance introductions at least twice a year in April and October at the High Point Furniture Market.

Hand-Painted Designs + Hand-Forged Metal

//

When art meets furniture you get an heirloom. Some of our most successful pieces have design elements painted by hand by local artists in Santa Fe. The designs are drawn and painted directly on the wood, on leather or on canvas. Each piece evokes the individual expression of the artist. Argentina is well known for its metal-craft. We will continue to expand the use of metal applications to our designs.

Sustainability + Plantation Hardwoods

//Reducing our ecological footprint is important to us. TerraSur is a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council (FSC) in the United States. Plantation Hardwoods: we use a plantation semi tropical hardwood from northern Argentina, a species with origins in Australia. Neither old growth forests nor rainforests are ever touched to source our wood.

The Story Behind the Design

TerraSur Designer Andres Dorigo

ANDRES DORIGO
Santa Fe, Argentina

Andres Dorigo has a bachelor’s in both Architecture and Psychology from the Catholic University in Santa Fe, Argentina. It is in this city where Dorigo pursues his artistic interests, which include ceramics, drawing, and painting. Much of his work delves into the psychological aspects of the creative process.

In addition to his fine art pursuits, Dorigo exclusively paints all of TerraSur’s one-of-a-kind pieces; among others, the Ema and Fiorenza collections. He takes an active role in the development of new painted designs and concepts for TerraSur’s hand-painted collections.

Dorigo has obtained many awards in Argentina, such as the coveted ARCIEN Award.  His work has been shown in Argentina and the United States, and can be found in many collections throughout South and North America.
